And here's another old, hard-to-find 7" that we've unearthed, the awesome 1995 Some Swords EP from San Francisco math-metal instrumentalists The Fucking Champs. Of course, this is from before they added the "Fucking", so it's just The Champs here, but the harmonized, prog inflected math-metal is definitely in full effect. Powered by the triumphant double-guitar attack of Josh Smith and Tim Green (formerly of Nation Of Ulysses) and powered by the driving, chugging rhythms of Tim Soete, this EP has the songs "Some Swords" (one of their only songs that features vocals!), "Andres Segovia Interests Me", "Eat My Fuck", and "I Love The Spirit World And I Love Your Father", a couple of which would show up later on as more fleshed out versions on their crucial III album. But even here at the beginning the shit was rippin', a rawer version of their Iron Maiden/math rock fusion, with plenty of convoluted song structures and time signatures to herald what these guys would be doing a couple years later. Massive. Comes in a full-color glued jacket.
