FUCKED UP Year Of The Pig LP (Whats Your Rupture?) 11.98A brand new barnburner of a 12" from the Toronto hardcore provocateurs, Year Of The Pig features two lengthy jams totalling more than 30 minutes of music from Fucked Up, that finally sees them pushing into the full-bore psychedelic/prog hardcore realm that I've been waiting to hear ever since I started buggin' out over their 7" singles a year and a half ago. This record is the first in a planned series that are gonna be based on the Chinese Zodiac; for their contribution, Fucked Up took the theme and applied it to the title track, an 18-minute, 34-second epic masterpiece addressing the plight of sex workers in Canada via some richly evocative, spiteful lyrics. The song starts off with lush Hammond organs played by Deadly Snakes Max Danger over a jazzy piano vamp and angelic vocals from Toronto singer Jennifer Castle, winds through raging thrashpunk and hypnotic Krautrock like a fusion of Poison Idea, Neu! and Pink Floyd with an adrenaline-spiking hand drum freakout rising up seven minutes in, and fuses all of these elements together at the songs end into a crushing climactic close. The other side features The Black Hats, not quite as long but just as powerful, a fierce motorik-hardcore jam that rides out a Hawkwind style riff to infinity over chainsaw thrash tempos and apocalyptic declarations from Pink Eyes putting us all on notice.
