FOOTBALL RABBIT  Walking Cross-Lots  CD   (Animal Disguise)   11.98

An industrial math rock/prog rock/black metal/post rock collage that features Dominick Fernow of Prurient on guitar? You'd better believe it. We managed to get ahold of just a few copies of this nearly out-of-print CD from 2002, and it's a scorching pastiche of heavy instrumentals that slither from dusky western fugues to rampaging chug-a-lug thrash metal and blasts of robotic basement Black Metal, to unexpectedly pretty n' dreamy soundtrack popscapes and swells of shoegazeresque melody, with lots of weird metallic riffs appearing all over the place. And the cold, electronic sound of the drumming, courtesy of drummer Kris Lapke (also of psych-sludgesters Furisubi), is apparently the result of his playing on small drum machine pads that have been run through an amplifier, the clinical, powerful tones of which further add to the general film score vibe that grips this disc. It's a pretty killer dose of imagined cinematic sonics, but filtered through that general Providence weirdness and seemingly infected with equal doses of Don Caballero, early 90's metal LP's, and Therapy?; walk around with this accompanying your day and you'll feel damn near unstoppable. Limited edition of 500, hand numbered, with silk screened covers by Neil Burke.
