FLYING LUTTENBACHERS, THE  Cataclysm  CD   (ugEXPLODE)   15.98
Cataclysm IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

The latest album in the Luttenbacher's ongoing apocalyptic sci-fi narrative that started way back with 1996's Revenge continues with this meticulously assembled avant prog/grind/thrash/jazz epic. Backed by a formidable lineup that includes shred wizard Mick Barr (Orthrelm/Octis/Ocrilim) on guitar, bassist Mike Green (Burmese), and guitarist Ed Rodriguez (Gorge Trio/Colossamite/Iceburn), Luttenbachers founder and drummer Weasel Walter constructs a technical shred/skronk blast assault that slams insane math-guitar acrobatics and mutant No Wave-meets-death metal heaviness against free jazz percussion and full-on grinding blastbeat marathons, an instrumental chronicle of the massive interstellar battle between the Behemoth and The Void through songs like "Demonic Velocities", "Insektoid Horror", and "Interstellar War". Mick Barr's presence on Cataclysm really adds a whole new shredtastic element to the band too, as he and Rodriguez trade off dizzying fretboard runs scurrying at lightspeed over the epileptic percussion, often reaching a point of axe meltdown where the notes begin to sound like computer glitches. Totally insane, and demanding of several listens just to absorb the detail of the compositions....I've been playing Cataclysm all week and am still just starting to get my head wrapped around it. The disc closes with a rendition of Movement Four of Olivier Messiaen's "L'Ascension" and "Regime Parts 1 & 2", an amazing 15 minute epic of cosmic puzzle destruction. Absolutely essential not only to Luttenbachers fans, but also to anyone even mildly into Mick Barr's godlike guitar playing and brain liquifying apocalyptic prog thrash in general.
