CONFESSOR  Unraveled  CD   (Season Of Mist)   9.99

Originally formed in 1990, Confessor were black sheep on the then-nascent Earache label, playing a unique form of progressive, technical death/doom, slow and dirgey with insane complex drumming patterns and wailing, keening, Geddy Lee-esque vocals courtesy of singer Scott Jeffreys, a sound that would go on to influence bands like The Fucking Champs and Don Cabellero. During their brief run in the early 90's, the band released an eponymous EP and their album debut Condemned, and performed on the legendary 1992 The Gods of Grind tour alongside Cathedral, Carcass, and Entombed. They never really broke out though, and broke up after only a couple of years. Now they're back outta retirement after reforming to play a benefit for founding guitarist Ivan Colon who died in 2002, which led to the band reconnecting to write and record this eight song sophomore album that finds them picking up right where they left off. Confessor bassist Cary Rowells and drummer Steve Shelton are also members of math-metal powerhouse Loincloth, and Unraveled's complex song structures, blinding guitarwork, and dizzying drumming will satisfy fans of that outfit; this is far doomier and way downcast, almost like Solitude Aeturnus fused with Meshuggah and Alice In Chains. Awesome progressive doom metal!
