ENDLESS BLOCKADE, THE / WADGE split 7" VINYL (R.S.R.) 6.50Seven tracks on the EB side? And Wadge doing their (his?) thing on the flipside? You know this is going to be FAST...
Endless Blockade kick off their side with the hyperspeed blastcore of "Pest COntrol", which suddenly segues into the Manson girls singing "I'll Never Say Never to Always" for a moment, then hurtles right into the brutal nuke-assault hardcore of "Fetal Position" and "Sleeping With The Dead". Then it's the five second blast attack of "The Endless Blockade (Traditional)", followed by the doom-laden, noise-infested punk of "Tomorrow's Ghettos", the brief Bastard Noise-esque noise pummel of "I Pcr", and ending with another rocking ode to futility, "Marrow", which ends the side with eerie electronic noise and another brief glimpse of Charlie's girls, their beautiful voices drifting off into the void.
Ask anyone with an iota of good taste, and they'll tell you the same: Wadge are one of grindcore's best kept secrets. This long running Canadian grind band has spent over a decade in obscurity crafting awesome Napalm Death-esque riffs, insane drum machine tempos that feel like Uzi fire punching holes through your skull, and bizarre musical non sequiters that suddenly lob in such cultural grenades as Hawaiian steel guitar, Don Knotts references, and electronic music into the mix without warning. There's some of that here on these three tracks, like the twangy surf guitar that pops up on "Leahi" in the midst of the crushing death metal guitars, but for the most part, Wadge's side is straight brutality, three songs of heavy grindcore that pays homage, as always, to the "Big Island".
