CULT OF DAATH Doomed By The Witch CASSETTE (Nuclear War Now! Productions) 6.98A killer new tape from Cult Of Daath that features five new tracks of their vicious Beherit worship tinged with the strange occult blackness of early Greek BM, Doomed By The Witch is a must for fans of violent, apocalyptic black metal barbarism. Released by Nuclear War Now on pro manufactured tape and packaged with cryptic artwork, this is juts as ripping as the other recent NWW cassettes from Xibalba and Set, and a solid set of necrotic crudity from these former members of Krieg and Nachtmystium.
First up is the thrashing black death of "From Temple to Abyss" that alternates mangled blasts and dirgey heaviness, followed by the short instrumental guitar piece "Rumination I". Then the title track kicks in, a killer dose of old school black thrash with punky Venom-esque riffing, heavily reverbed and droning guitar solos and bursts of ferocious double bass drumming, a simple, evil riff at the center of it. Primo primitive blackened thrash! "Spell Thrust" is faster, with a Motorhead-like gallop driving it onward. And the last song, a cover of Profanatica's "As Tears of Blood Stain the Altar of Christ" comes in with a fast and classic blast of icy black metal reminiscent of old Darkthrone and Beherit, quickly slipping into a gruesome slow mo dirge for a while before launching back into the archaic blackness. The recording quality is raw but heavy, and the whole thing clocks in at just less than fifteen minutes. Killer!
