COFFINS / WARHAMMER  split  10" VINYL   (Break The Chains)   14.98

What a match - on one side, you get a new song from one of the heaviest death metal bands in existence right now, Coffins, and on the other, a new one from a band that has managed to clone the DNA from Hellhammer and Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales perfectly, producing a nearly thirteen minute slab of primitive deathcrush. Yeah, this 10" is on the short side, especially considering how much it goes for, but if you're a fan of either band, rest assured that both of these songs are pretty fucking great.

As far as the Coffins side goes, you know what to expect here if you're familiar with these Japanese death metal throwbacks. Coffins dole out another one of their pulverizing down tuned death metal crushers in "Till Dawn Of The Doomsday", with it's monstrous punk riff tuned to skull-flattening heaviness, deep guttural growling vokills, the sound kind of low fi and messy and most definitely stench-ridden, but that certainly doesn't take anything away from the sheer heaviness of this song. And man, when the band shifts gears from the thrash of the first half into the rocking mid-tempo churn of the second, the transition is fucking devastating. Might be short, but Coffins fanatics won't be disappointed by this song.

NO ONE does the Frost tribute thing better than German blackened metallers Warhammer (except for maybe Lair of the Minotaur could give these guys a run for their money...). As if you couldnt guess by the band name, is one of the premier Hellhammer worship outfits. These German thrashers drop a new song here called "Maneater" that's over seven minutes of crushing Hellhammer / early Frost style doom-laden metalpunk. Much of this song is made up of awesome rocking mid-tempo crunch leads into classic Frostian thrash, the singer's echo-laden growling vocals going on about blasphemous activities and violence, and it breaks into a frenzied speed metal assault in the later half of the song. Quite killer!

This 10" is limited to 666 copies, and includes a glossy insert.
