ELECTRIC OMEN Fog Circles/Ghost Clouds CASSETTE (Swim Harder) 7.99Sindre Bjerga has made a name for himself with his constant flow of short-run drone tapes and cdrs, many of which feature him working as a duo with Jan Iversen and creating seriously zoned-out improvised guitar ambience and grainy industrial drones. But as Electric Omen, Bjerga goes solo and constructs a more minimal, heavier brand of guitar-based drone music that's closer to the dark, skull-rattling amp-roar of Vulture Club, RST, Culver and Acre.
This limited edition cassette (only 70 copies produced) features two tracks of massive rumbling ur-drone from Electric Omen. The first side features "Fog Circles", a churning mass of rhythmic, distorted chords, buzzing static hum, minimal synth drone, molded together into a single super distorted chordal drone, slowly shifting and churning, layered with additional sheets of guitar buzz and sludgy fuzz-soaked clusters of overtones and hints of melody glinting within the roaring molten amp-glow. The track is a kind of beautifully crushing minimalism, like a Terry Riley peice being played through overdriven Sunn amps. The other side ("Ghostclouds") is based around another static chord, this one deeper and thicker, a steady rumbling block of buzz hovering in midair and surrounded by trails of tape hiss and muted feedback, the roiling dense buzz extended infinitely, stretched across space as a massive time-destroying buzzsaw drone, intensely hypnotic, the roar only starting to waver at the end as it slowly shifts upwards in pitch, turning into an ominous, eerie bending two-chord riff that finishes the side.
