EARTH  Radio Live: 2007-2008  LP   (Southern Lord)   19.98
Radio Live: 2007-2008 IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

For those of you who can't get enough of the new Earth sound, that lugubrious slow motion twang and Western crawl that Dylan Carlson and company have defined over the course of their last few albums, here we have a brand new limited edition LP from Earth that features a live performance recorded on the California radio station KFJC on New Years Eve, 2007, and from their Vienna show on the 2008 European tour. Released on vinyl only, Radio Live: 2007-2008 is four songs long, but these songs are long and sprawling and seem to take hours to unfold, each one a massive slab of countrified slowcore, huge reverbed guitar melodies and slow-motion twang and jazzy Rhodes piano unfurling over sparse but deceptively heavy drumming...you get "Engine Of Ruin", "Omens And Portents II: The Carrion Crow", "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull", and "Junkyard Priest", and all sounding totally gorgeous and mesmerizing here. The recordings for both performances are fantastic and border on studio quality, and even though studio versions of all of these songs appeared on Bees..., here the band is allowed to spread out a bit more, allowing some jazzy improvisation and extended playing to come in, making this an excellent document of how Earth develops their music in a live setting. Also of note: on the KFJC recordings, the band is joined by Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle/Secret Chiefs 3, who contributes sitar and baritone guitar to both of those songs.

Heavy 180 gram black vinyl, presented in a beautiful heavyweight matte jacket with metallic silver foil printing, and issued in a run of 3,000 copies.
