ENCOMIAST  Transit Bed  CDR   (Gears Of Sand)   12.98
Transit Bed IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

This Encomiast disc isn't new, but we're just now getting around the listing it in the C-Blast store. The album was released in 2007 on Gears Of Sand, the ambient music label run by Ben Fleury-Steiner from Light Of Shipwreck. It goes without saying that anything that Encomiast releases is fantastic, I've been a huge fan of Ross Hagen's dark dronescapes ever since witnessing his band live in Rhode Island around eight years ago, and each new thing he puts out is terrific. Transit Bed is another gleaming obsidian realm of low end ambience, as gorgeous and myserious and evocative as any of his other releases, maybe a bit darker, dunno if it's just the black and grey album artwork that makes me think that, as most Encomiast stuff tends to be pretty dark, but there are definitely some very dark shadows drifting across the five tracks on this disc. Vast stretches of low rumbling ambience and billowing black drift, cavernous echoes and gleaming metallic shimmer, a massive subterranean expanse that has been created using recordings of live performances from Hagen's old krautrock-worshipping band Liebezeit as source material and turned into unrecognizeable smears of spacious black drift, and laced with echoing percussive clatter, strange shapeless sounds, smatterings of prepared piano and Balinese gangsa and flute, none of it really recognizeable either, but melted into dark blurs of formless sonic texture drifting slowly across the eerie landscape. Highly recommended as usual!
