DIE PIGEON DIE  Ripped From V To A  CD   (No Escape)   9.98
Ripped From V To A IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

One label you can always count on to bring you the heaviest, most fucked-up sounding goregrind on the planet is Aussie blast imprint No Escape. I'm a fan of a bunch of the bands that the label has put out over the years like the hilarious 3000 mph drum-machine fueled splatterdeath of Fuck...I'm Dead, the pulverising rocking grooviness of The Day Everything Became Nothing, comedic grinders Putrescence, and Dutch gore-sludge legends Bile. The guys at No Escape seem to have their ears easpecially tuned to goregrind bands that have a knack for matching their blastbeat, vomit roar holocausts with slower, catchier parts that are actually really rocking and, uh, pretty groovy. Die Pigeon Die are one of the grooviest bands that No Escape has put out recently, and some of the stuff on their Ripped From V To A EP rank as some of the catchiest goregrind riffs and hooks I've listened to lately. You've got all of the goregrind ingredients, obviously - the ridiculous band name and over-the-top violent title, horrific/hilariously disgusting cover artwork, lots of samples of screaming men and women lifted from various splatter movies and used as interludes between one brutal blastjam and the next, absurdly gross, Carcass-style song titles like "Massive Warts In Pregnancy" and "Enlarged Urinary Tract Neoplasm", machinegun blastbeats, inhuman processed vocals. Die Pigeon Die do throw in some weird turns interesting than your usual run-of-the-mill gore/porno grind slop, however. There's some killer discordant soloing that shows up in a couple of tracks, bizarre feedback/ambient vomit vocal interludes like "Liquefied Remains of Digested Filth", some occasional drum breaks that I can only describe as being pretty fucking funky, but it's the vocals that really push this into total ridiculousness. I'm used to the gurgling, pitch-shifted vocals that most goregrind bands employ, but holy shit, Die Pigeon Die take the use of processed vocals even further, running the singer's already impossibly low and gutteral grunts through extreme electronic effects and creating this weird layered effect that sounds like yer hearing a malfunctioning toilet, a grizzly bear gargling molasses, and someone hacking up gobs of lung and having that sound time-stretched into infinity, all going at the same time over the pulverising, crushing death metal grooves and jackhammer blasts. This has got to be some of the most fucked-up vocal processing I've heard a goregrind band use yet. Definitely not for everyone, but if yer into absurdly heavy, weird, bulldozing goregrind a la Bile, Last Days Of Humanity, Cock And Ball Torture, and The Day Everything Became Nothing, you'll love Die Pigeon Die. Includes a cover of Flesh Parade's "Bout Had It".
