CREAM ABDUL BABAR / TEEN CTHULHU  split  CD   (Hyperrealist Records)   8.98

This split CD has two new tracks from Cream Abdul Babar, with one new song recorded during the same session as the split with Kylesa ("Mahogany Walled

Executive Office") -a stuttering, wiry blast of dense noise rock / post-punk brutality . Their other track, "Intruder Alert", is a pulsating rhythmic noise

drone, a looping low-frequency bass dirge that explodes into thunderous electronic whoosh and buried casio melody. Nice. Teen Cthulhu wrap it up with 3

killer songs...I love their weird black metal-filtered-through-DIY hardcore/"powerviolence", although it seems that they generated a love 'em or hate 'em

response from most people during their existence. Fast crusty thrash with melodic baroque keyboards and frenzied multiple vocals and huge breakdowns. It's

like a mix of Infest / Crossed Out style hardcore blast and Cradle Of Filth's bombastic black metal with unexpected melodic breaks that betray the bands

indie past. Nicely packaged as well.
