EYEHATEGOD Confederacy of Ruined Lives CD (Century Media) 13.98A rejuvenated Eyehategod resurfaced in 2000 with this fourth full length, the first from the Lousiana doomcore pioneers since 1996's Dopesick. 10 tracks of feedback vomiting, Sabbath swinging sludge, with some of their best jams ever: "Blood Money", "Jack Ass In The Will Of God", and the awesome Allman Brothers-goes-to-hell southern rock of "99 Miles Of Bad Road" are all chunks of sublime Southern doom, and the album is furnished with one of their cleanest production jobs ever, leaving all the grit and bloody phlegm intact but giving their pounding heaviness a clarity we normally don't associate with EHG albums. The bluesy, downtuned swamp metal riffs are catchier and groovier than ever, but there's plenty of agonizingly slow passages as well, and Confederacy definitely has all of the bitter negativity that we'd expect from Eyehategod. Includes an 8-page full color booklet filled with Mike Williams' awesome "Southern Nihilism Front" collages, lyrical scrawl, and graphic misanthropic rantings.
