EXTINCTION Down Below The Fog CD (Todestrieb) 11.98Extinction's Down Below The Fog was originally released in a micro-edition of 50 cassette in 2001, and quickly went out of print. This new remastered CD re-issue features the entire original recording, an eight chapter ritual that begins with "Prologue", an Abruptum-like pit of deconstructed black noise, deformed guitar riffs, metal striking metal, and gibbering shrieks oozing together into a terrifying fog of slow motion blackness. But when the second track kicks in, the album becomes an ultra blown out black metal assault drowning in noise and feedback, with weird atonal arpeggios, incredibly sloppy drumming, incomprehensible vomit screams, and shredded minor key riffs all drenched in black noise and blurry distortion. Buzzing, feedback-splattered riffs and primitive trashcan drums blaze through black static seas and take on an almost industrial vibe, often collapsing mid-song into a formless swirl of cable buzz and amp noise and demonic throat drones. Much of Down Below The Fog is aligned with an exploratory, improvisational spirit, and Extinction's shifts between ferocious noisy black metal and hellish improvised sound is mesmerizing.
