CONTRADICTION  self-titled  CD   (Breathmint)   11.98

OK, the label's description of "emo power electronics" in regards to this collaborative project between no-wave icon Weasel Walter (The Flying

Luttenbachers , XBXRX , To Live And Shave In L.A. , 7000 Dying Rats , etc.) and Andy Ortmann of Panicsville did have me a little curious...but it's really

just a reference to the spoken word stuff on this full length, 10 song CD. Billed as "10 Compositions For Electronics And Voices", we get a varied assault

of extreme chirping feedback that sounds like robot songbirds, buzzing lawnmotor carnage, high pitched sinewave drones, and avalanches of crunchy distortion

over which the guys yell sensitive stuff like "When I told you I liked you, I wasn't joking". Contradiction doesn't come off as a parody, as the razorsharp

electronic skree , blip chaos, and rumbling distortion are definitely no joke, but I gotta admit, I think the vocals/rants on this are hysterical, a crushing

power electronics album with dry comedic undertones. It's like Whitehouse meets a Mr. Show sketch. Chicago skilled noise technician Kevin Drumm shows up on

the track "Haunted House".
