CONTRA IGNEM FATUUM  Detritus  CD   (Supernal)   11.98

Three tracks make up Detritus, the first and third being dark ambient processionals...the first track, "Blood Upon The Horizon", is a grim death-

chant/funeral march, with distant monk-like lamentations, distant drumming, and depressing ethereal synth melody. The third, "Hyperborean Ascension", is an

epic piece of excellent synth-heavy soundtrack blackness, like a majestic score to an 80's Euro horror film. But when the middle song, the title track

"Detritus", kicks in with it's massed buzzsaw guitar layers, it's total apocalypse, a black swarm of a guitar riff creeping over the horizon, an absolutely

EPIC, evil melodic riff, beautiful and triumphant, played over and over again, sounding very much like a black metal Band Of Susans, or a Rhys Chatham

guitar-orchestra score being performed by a legion of corpsepaint sporting maniacs, layers and layers of hornet guitar over blasting drums relegated so far

in the back of the mix that they become little more than a blurry pulse, same with the anguished croaked vocals that are more like a death creak than any

kind of truly legible pronouncement. This masterpeice of hypno-black metal rotates and repeats for 14 minutes, and it's seriously trance inducing.
