CULVER  Recycled Music  CASSETTE   (RRRecords)   4.98

A phenomenal blast of fuzzed out, lengthy and heavy megadrone from Culver, the ultra-prolific recording project of Lee Stokoe. This guy is a freakin' drone maestro, having done time as the bass player for Marzuraan and currently teaming up with Matt Bower as part of the live Skullflower lineup! On this cassette released just recently through RRRecords Recycled Music Series, here he's constructing huge slabs of eternal buzz n' hum that could be coming out of the blown speakers of a distorted organ, or might be forming from the heavy murk of six electric guitars leaning against amplifiers and releasing an endless river of sludgy throb coursing through the air.

Either way, it rules.

Total slow motion ambient sludge rush, sending out hypnotic pulses and uncovering beautiful buried melodies within the wave of distortion. There aren't any track listings included here, or information of any kind for that matter...c'mon, it's a part of the notorious Recycled Tape Series, so all you get is some black magic marker scrawl across the duct-tape mummified pop-album cassette and junked cover. But I can tell ya that there's somewhere in the vicinty of 2-3 tracks included on this tape, and that the second piece seems to carry over the end of side 1 to the beginning of side 2 like it never took a breather...the tape grinds away for around a half hour, bathing your skull in a smoothed out, minimalist ambient sludge tide that posesses all of the best attributes of Earth, Skullflower, Perfect Teeth, as well as Boris'

ritualistic amp-drones, and the amplified thrum of aircraft engines passing over your head. Absolutely mesmerizing, man, toss this in your walkman at night and let your brain melt into pools of black bliss.
