This is a new domestic release of the 2003 album from the Yogyakarta, Indonesia-based jazz/grind/death outfit Cranial Incisored. Fans of the early Cephalic Carnage albums are gonna flip a lid here, as CI channel a similiar brand of knuckle-burning grindcore/math metal technicality that jumpcuts lots of unexpected splats o' kitschy cabana jazz and bona fide fusion. However, these 14 songs aren't merely a Cephalic ripoff, as Cranial Incisored also injects some killer, almost Behold...The Arctopus/Naked City -worthy fretboard calculus alongside a generally raw-ass Earache Records grindcrust tone that all of the best Indonesian grind bands possess, sending this jam into some pretty head frying dimensions of speed and shred and 150-riffs-a-minute annihilation. Rebuild should definitely appeal to those of you into brutally complex, avant-damaged grindcore with a rawer edge. We really dig the artwork on this too, nothing too fancy but it does have a surreal, post-modern graphic design vibe that reminds us of alot of the Japanese grind album art that we love around here.
