With a name like CORE OF THE EARTH, a band had better deliver major heaviness on some level, and this Colorado trio does not disappoint. Our buddy Conan at Game Two Records turned us onto this new band, and it's as brutally heavy as anything from that esteemed label. These 11 songs combine the band's obvious MELVINS influence (big angular sludge riffs, offbeat timing) with HIGH ON FIRE -esque battle riffery and a singer/drummer who sounds like an enraged lumberjack. Mix in some cool feedback and amp-buzz drones and subterranean grinding between songs, plus some eerie instrumentals, and you have a solid debut of massive, quirky lava-rock that fans of the aforementioned bands as well as Saint Vitus, Thrones, and Electric Wizard will dig.
