CONSULAR  Cross The Swine  CD   (Shifty)   9.98
Cross The Swine IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

With all of the incredible sludge bands that have come out of Florida over the years, Cavity, Floor, Dove, Torche, you'da thunk that there would have been a renaissance down there in gator country, but it's actually not all that often that we catch wind of a new band from Floria that deals in seriously slow n' pulverizing riffage. Miami's Consular are one exception, a newish band whose debut on Shifty definitely beings back some misty eyed memories of Floridian sludgesters Cavity while injecting their own fetid vibe into the stew of feedbacking amplifiers, simple sledgehammer riffage, and bashing drums. Yeah, Consular are definitely students of the general Eyehategod / Cavity school of swampy, feedback splattered dirge, but there's also a couple of rad turns into almost-melodic riffage a la Harvey Milk or Floor that keeps things interesting on Cross The Swine, and the singer ratchets up the intensity with one hell of a larynx-shredding vocal attack that makes this a bit more vicious and crusty sounding than yer typical sludge fest. It's a solid debut, I definitely like the way these guys offset the abrasive negatory sludge with those more melodic riffs; certainly the kind of stuff you wanna check out if yer already wearing out those old Floor 7"s and Eyehategod discs and can't get enough crushing molasses destruction.
