COCK E.S.P + PANICSVILLE Last Train To Cocksville CD (Little Mafia) 9.98This tribute to 60's bubblegum gods The Monkees comes from a tag team blast of harsh electronic noise and Monkees-baiting cutup between Midwestern free-noise freaks COCK E.S.P. and PANICSVILLE. Monkees tapes are slowed down skrew-style and looped, heavy bleats of burnt feedback squeal and electric currents are squeezed into your ear, grating noise sprouts from a wasteland of sonic detritus, obliterating the Monkees tunes into blots of near-unrecognizable splat with warped renditions of the original songs lyrics. And there's some kind of weird train fetish being played out in the album art, with COCK E.S.P.'s E.W. Hagstrom and PANICSVILLE's Andy Ortmann dressed as train engineers hard at work on the tracks. The whole thing seems like a children's record soaked in Promethazine.
