Motel and Black Boned Angel. This killer disc from Devoid Of All Mercy is too damn short at only 20 minutes long, but it's a harrowing 20

minutes of total creepout, with five tracks bearing titles like "There Are No Lights In This Cabin", "Last Ride In A Rusting Truck", and

"Cannibals In The Hills", each one channeling backwoods horror through intense, repeated piano lines, eerie guitar drones and plucked strings

that sometimes sound like a banjo, strangely weightless and baroque ambient doom, and growled muttering that will make your skin crawl. I'm

reminded of Wolfmangler's skeletal black metal/folk at times, but this has an intensely greasy, grisly vibe that totally sets this apart, due

in part to the nasty 70's hillbilly slasher imagery that's in the song titles. This was originally released as a limited 3" CD-R through

Battlecruiser but has been reissued on a regular CD. Pitch-black rural horror.
