EYEHATEGOD  Southern Discomfort  CD   (Century Media)   13.98
Southern Discomfort IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR ORDER

When Southern Discomfort first came out, it had been something like four years since Eyehategod had released their last album, and was released after the band had gone into an indefinite hiatus that looked like they were calling it a day. They didn't, but it would be ahile before we would hear anything new from them...instead, the band issued this compendium of rare, hard-to-find 7"s tracks as well as recordings saved from the Dopesick recording session in 1995. The first part of the disc features the songs of the Ruptured Heart Theory 7" on Bovine, their split 7" with 13 from Slap A Ham, and the other split 7" they did with 13 that was released by Ax/ction Records. But then there are the alternate studio tracks from the Dopesick sessions, and I'm stunned when "Peace Thru War (Thru Peace and War)" kicks in with it's speedy hardcore blast overlaid with Mike William's sick screeching and....someone dropping hip hop rhymes? What in the fuck. That track is barely 2 minutes long, but the combination of those rap vocals and Eyehategod's hardcore/sludge sounds fucking INSANE. The final track "Dopesick Jam" is a 16 minute medley of riffs and bits of songs that spans their entire career. This compendium features some of Eyehategod's fastest, most vicious jams as well as one of their heaviest dirges ever ("Depress"). An essential part of the Eyehategod collection.
