COLD ELECTRIC FIRE In Nights Dream We Are Ghosts CD (Crionic Mind) 6.00Back in stock after a couple of years of being sold out of this black ambient masterwork, Cold Electric Fire's In Nights Dream We Are Ghosts was released in 2002 in a limited edition of 500 through Crionic Mind, the label operated by Scott Candey of Gruntsplatter. Using a uniquely organic palette of sound sources (piano, cymbals, violin, metal chains, field recordings from construction sites, acoustic guitar, among others), the seven tracks on this disc travel across vast expanses of atmospheric darkness, deep abysses of rumbling ambient drone and delicate melodies surfacing out of the blackness. Most of the pieces consist of serene, drifting ambience underscored by churning distortion and shimmering piano melodies, and the piano seems to be the focal point of these tracks, although you can barely recognize where any of these sounds are coming from while your listening to this. The album has a ghostly, emotional feel, and the melodic elements that appear over the heavy drones put this somewhere in between the blurry blissed out dronescapes of artists like Tim Hecker and Eluvium, and the deep subterranean blackness of Lustmord.
