CHURCH OF MISERY In The Red: Live Eurotour 2005 DVD (My Own Salvation) 22.98Anyone that is a fan of Japan's longrunning serial killer obsessed doomlords Church Of Misery will FLIP over this extensive live document of the band from
their European tour in 2005. Like some mental mix of diseased 70's hard rock, whiskey soaked scumfuck punk and crusty psychedelic sludgemetal, Church Of
Misery are one the heaviest bands ever, delivering crushing slabs of stonerized riffing through massive amounts of distortion, super grooving and spaced out,
with a singer who has one of the gnarliest voices you'll ever hear. They're like this insane combo of Clutch, Black Sabbath, Boris, and Confederacy Of Scum
style sleaze rock. They've put out a handful of DVDs over the years, but this is the first one I've picked up from them. Seeing these guys in the live
setting is amazing, a bunch of distortion-crazed Japanese hippies covered in sweat, oversized shirts and bellbottoms falling off of their skinny frames,
driving the European crowds into frenzies of head banging, sludge grooving ecstacy with their crumbling boogie doom riffs, massive classic rock riffage steel
plated with pure monstrous swagger and psychedelic evil, mega heavy, mega murderous, mega stoned, mega goddamn cowbell. The production on this DVD is totally
professional, the sound recording is top notch, everything is mixed loudly and thick and sounds like a solid live album. The footage is also pro, with
multiple camera shots and creative editing. It's split into three sections: you get a full live set filmed in Saint Etienne , France from October of 2005,
the seperate hour-long Eurotour 2005 documentary that intercuts awesome even more live peformance footage of the band in various parts of Europe
with all kinds of footage of the band on tour, a behind-the-scenes look at Church Of Misery on the road, hanging out with friends, preparing for shows,
hanging out backstage. Pretty cool stuff, especially the part where the band gets down with an epic, spaced out improvisational psych jam. And then there is
a professionally filmed music video for the song "Filth Bitch Boogie" directed by Fangs Anal Satan, the design firm alter-ego of Boris! The video looks
great, filmed in black and white with the footage distorted and degraded, images of two girls making out and corpses in forests, all assembled as a surreal
horror film set to Church Of Misery's bludgeoning boogie sludge. So cool.
The DVD was released by the French label My Own Salvation, and it's a PAL system disc but Region free, which means that it will not play on standard U.S.
DVD players unless your system is set up to play PAL discs, but you can play it on any DVD-ROM player found in a PC or Mac! Comes in a cool full color case.
